A unique dial for the Oris ProPilot

Oris ProPilot X Caliber 400 Laser watch, model made with a 39 mm titanium case like the bracelet. The watch is powered by the revolutionary automatic Caliber 400 with five days of power reserve. But the real innovation this time is in its colorful dial, created with a futuristic laser technique never seen before in watchmaking. The watch offers superior chronometer-like accuracy and class-leading levels of anti-magnetism and reliability, a 10-year warranty and recommended 10-year maintenance intervals. In this model Oris has removed the date to let the dial tell its extraordinary story.
A unique dial
The dial of the ProPilot XCalibre 400 Laser is made with an innovative technique never seen before in Swiss mechanical watchmaking. The dial of the new ProPilot It is in fact based on the principles of biomimetics, in particular on the natural phenomenon of optical interference: red light waves are cancelled, while blue and green ones are reflected. It's hard to believe, but there isn't a single drop of color pigment in the dial of this watch.
This original treatment consists of a manipulation of the surface that splits the light into its components, creating an extraordinary rainbow effect that changes depending on the angle of observation. The entire dial was created using laser technology. For the logo, indexes, minute track and dial characters, Oris has used another laser treatment that creates a three-dimensional effect, making these details appear as if they were applied in a conventional way. Through a magnifying glass, the effect is spectacular. This laser technique is an absolute novelty in watchmaking. It was developed in collaboration with a research laboratory affiliated with ETH Zurich and applied to a titanium dial under the guidance of our engineering department, led by Richard “Ipy” Siegrist: a technological marvel at the service of watchmaking.
