Why choose a watch with a leather strap?

Since their origins, leather straps have conquered the wrists of watch enthusiasts, becoming a timeless accessory synonymous with elegance. Always known as a "gentleman's thing", these straps actually stand out for their versatility and for being worn by anyone.

The first leather straps

The use of leather watch straps has a fascinating history that has its roots in a distant past. Since the earliest timekeeping devices, such as pocket watches, leather has been a natural choice for protecting and securing them to the owner's wrist. Its renowned strength and versatility made it the ideal material for this purpose.

Some stories trace leather straps back to the South African wars of freedom: it is said that soldiers, in the scorching heat of the Veldt, took off their jackets and waistcoats to wear pocket watches on their wrists, fixed to the arm using simple leather bands. Other historians, however, place them further back in time, during the third Burmese war (1885-1887).

However, it was only with the advent and spread of wristwatches, at the beginning of the 20th century, that leather straps experienced their true development and affirmation.

Why choose a leather strap?

- Leather straps can be worn with a variety of outfits, from casual to formal;

- Leather is a durable material that can last for many years;

- The leather, being soft and flexible, adapts to the wrist and offers long-lasting comfort.

Leather straps are a popular choice for watches due to their combination of style, comfort, durability and value. With so many different types and styles to choose from, there is sure to be a perfect leather strap for every watch and every occasion.
