Aqualand: the story continues with citizen's 40th Anniversary Edition

Citizen is celebrating 40 years of Aqualand with a limited edition. The latest addition to the PROMASTER line is the "Aqualand 40th Anniversary Limited Edition," which commemorates the 40th anniversary of the world's first electronic dive watch equipped with a depth sensor.

A Legacy of Innovation

In 1985, Citizen unveiled the world's first dive watch with a depth sensor, named "Aqualand". This was a revolution in the world of diving that changed how people dived. Equipped with a precise and dynamically updating depth gauge and a dive timer, it represented a complete device for a diver to safely perform a dive. The "Aqualand's" ability to store dive data (maximum depth reached and dive time) allowed for later viewing and consultation once back on the surface.

The Limited Edition

In 2025, forty years later, Citizen is celebrating the anniversary of "Aqualand" with a Limited Edition model created as a faithful tribute to the 1985 original, yet modern and new.

The main features of this limited edition model include:

  • Distinctive Design: The rose gold (PVD) crown at 4 o'clock, the three pushers, and the characteristic bulb-shaped depth sensor at 9 o'clock replicate the shape of the original model, also in rose gold (PVD).
  • Premium Finish: The case features a gray matte brushed finish, while the presence of golden details gives it a special, celebratory appearance, worthy of a 40th-anniversary model.
  • Advanced Functionality: In addition to displaying time, calendar, alarm, and chronograph functions, the digital display also allows for depth measurement and dive time monitoring in dive mode.
  • Safety Features: The model is also equipped with an ascent rate alarm function that emits an audible warning when the ascent rate exceeds a certain limit.
  • Eco-Friendly Strap: The strap is made from BENEBiOL™*, a plant-based polyurethane. CITIZEN adopted BENEBiOL for its straps because it is resistant to hydrolysis when exposed to humidity and has a reduced environmental impact. *BENEBiOL™ is a raw material developed by Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation and based on a biomass polyurethane (polycarbonatediol). This material was adopted for Citizen's straps with the aim of achieving greater durability and, above all, environmental respect. BENEBiOL™ is a registered trademark of Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation.
  • Commemorative Engraving: The commemorative 40-year case back features an engraving of a logo inspired by the iconic shape of the sensor, a design element created to celebrate this important occasion.

The "Aqualand 40th Anniversary Limited Edition" (JP2008-06E) is a limited edition of 5,800 pieces worldwide, with 2,000 units destined for Italy.
